Synopsis:
Hyperion stops the ambulance the cabal used to kidnap Joe Ledger’s body, and returns him to the hospital. General Bradley has the entire hospital put into lockdown and orders that a new, independent, team interview and re-qualify all hospital personnel. Doctor Steadman notes that he spoke with Hyperion after he recovered the ambulance, and that Hyperion mentioned that he felt like he had some power siphoned off during the rescue, and heard music, just as when he and Joe were connected to one another in the early attempts to bring Joe back to consciousness. Steadman and Bradley agree to expose Joe to the alien cradle-ship in a last ditch effort to recover their weapon.
Joe Ledger and the crystal continue to explore his memories. After Joe killed his stepfather and mother’s murderer, the military covered up his involvement by deploying him on increasingly secretive and politically inexcusable wet work operations, in the process unplugging him from the rest of his life. The crystal offers to remove Joe’s memories of the killings he committed and the guilt he feels for his mother’s death in exchange for using Joe as a conduit for its destructive capabilities in service of its undisclosed mission. When Joe admits that not only does he kill, but that he is a murder who kills for the enjoyment, the crystal merges with his consciousness and body, leaving him with the vision of his hand reaching out to grasp and control the world (similar to Hyperion’s vision in the Supreme Power series).
As Joe and the crystal come to agreement, Steadman and Bradley remove the shielding separating his body from the alien ship and Joe (as Doctor Spectrum) blasts through the roof of the facility into space.
